Selecting the right self-adjusting shock absorber for your industrial application

Choosing the right one from BIBUS' wide range of industrial shock absorbers can be an overwhelming task. The properties of the right impact absorber depend on the specific application in which the absorber will be used.

Not only the desired damping force plays an important role, but other characteristics of the shock absorber also play a big part in this selection process. Consider the range, a minimum and maximum effective mass, a certain inherent damping characteristic and, of course, a permissible impact speed.

In advance, it is often difficult to estimate exactly how an application absorbs. This is why BIBUS can supply a self-adjusting impact absorber. This way, you test the properties of your application in practice. The specialists at BIBUS will be happy to help you select the optimum shock absorber for your application.

In this article, you will find more information on selecting the right self-adjusting impact absorber. Please contact us directly for tailor-made advice on your application.

Industrial shock absorbers from ACE

There are different types of shock absorbers. Among other things, they differ in the way they dampen. Hydraulic shock absorbers, for example, are supported by hydraulic fluid and offer adjustable damping. Pneumatic impact absorbers use air pressure to control damping, while friction impact absorbers work on a friction basis to absorb impact.

BIBUS offers advanced damping technology solutions from ACE for industrial shock absorbers, motion control and safety products, based on extensive technological expertise.

ACE's self-adjusting shock absorbers (MA)

To arrive at the right shock absorber, BIBUS can initially supply an adjustable damper from ACE's MA series. The infinitely adjustable MA damper is used in the test phase because it can be determined by the end user via the adjustment segment at the bottom to determine the damping characteristic, ranging between 1 and 9. This allows the MA shock absorbers to be accurately adapted to the requirements of the application.

The minimum energy absorption of the MA dampers ranges from 3.5 Nm/stroke for the MA 30 to 6,780 Nm/stroke for the MA 64, and the effective mass ranges from 0.23 to 500,000 kg. This damper is available with stroke lengths ranging from 8 to 150 mm, depending on the model chosen (from MA 30 to MA 64).

To determine which MA damper from the package is best to use, indication of the desired speed and energy absorption is needed. After this, BIBUS can supply you with the right MA damper to test what fits best in the particular application.

ACE's MC shock absorbers

Once the ideal damping characteristic has been determined with the MA damper, the MA damper can be delivered back to BIBUS. After this, the team at BIBUS will put together an MC damper with equal specifications for your applications.

This selection method offers several advantages. Firstly, it is an cost-effective and reliable solution. In addition, it prevents possible damage that could occur in the application/machine due to an incorrect shock absorber.

Variations of shock absorbers

The options for shock absorbers do not end with damping characteristics and stroke length. Depending on the application, a different bump head, for example, can be ordered. By default, the impact head of the shock absorbers of both series is made of Nylon. If required, a Polyurethane impact head or an impact head made of hardened steel with a corrosion-resistant coating can be supplied. It is also possible to order a model without an impact head.

The factory delivers the shock aborbers filled up. Specific external factors, such as extreme temperatures, may influence the required oil in the muffler. In addition to the standard oil with which the shock absorbers are filled, special oils are available.
