BIBUS in practice: lockable gas springs for an adjustable wheelchair

In the medical sector, component reliability is very important. Innovative products from this market therefore like to work with components of the highest quality. A good example of this are gas springs from Bansbach supplied by BIBUS.

As a partner, BIBUS previously thought along with the application of gas springs in lab centrifuges, at mobile care stations and ergonomic examination benches. In this article, we zoom in on the application of lockable gas springs in O4 Wheelchairs' adjustable wheelchairs. This product application clearly demonstrates the reliability and versatility of Bansbach's gas springs supplied by BIBUS.

Adjustable wheelchairs from O4 Wheel Chairs

While sitting, joints, nerves and organs are pushed into a position that can lead to a variety of complaints. A static sitting position clearly does the human body no favours.

This is why O4 Wheelchairs has developed Flow, the adjustable wheelchair. Flow's dynamics allow energy to flow and give your body the flow it needs. O4 Wheelchairs is an up and coming Dutch designer and manufacturer of manual wheelchairs based in Varsseveld in the Achterhoek.

Application of the lockable gas spring

A type K lockable gas spring is used in the Flow wheelchair. The gas spring, placed under the seat of the wheelchair, plays a crucial role in adjusting the seat angle. This component is specially adjusted to the weight of the wheelchair user, which is essential for proper functioning.

A lever is used to release the gas spring. When the user presses the lever and a small amount of pressure is taken off the seat, the person in the chair is pushed up with minimal effort.

The lockable gas spring allows the user to adjust the sitting position as required. If the user simply stays in the chair with their full weight while the lever is depressed, the seat lowers. This allows adjustments to the seating position.

This provides the user with the freedom to adjust the chair to his or her needs, allowing for optimal sitting posture. The gas spring offers stepless adjustment, allowing numerous different seating angles to be set, so that the user can always sit comfortably.

Moreover, this functionality allows the user to adjust the sitting position to the specific activity they are performing. Whether working comfortably at a desk, with the elbows resting on the table, or adopting a more active posture while rolling longer distances, the gas spring under the seat makes it all possible.

Bansbach's lockable gas springs

The lockable gas spring enables stepless adjustments in the Flow wheelchair. Precisely because of this unique feature, lockable gas springs are often used in systems where controlled movements are important. Here, forces, damping and compression play an important role.

Due to low friction forces and high-quality seals, among other things, Bansbach lockable gas springs are very reliable. Lockable gas springs are used in situations where the application can be locked/positioned in various positions with the gas spring. Our range of lockable gas springs consists of lockable gas push springs and lockable gas pull springs.
