MATRIX high speed valves: unmatched pneumatic performance

MATRIX high speed valves offer unrivalled pneumatic performance. When it comes to response time (up to 0.5 ms) and lifetime (up to 4 billion shifts maintenance-free), there is virtually no competition for these high speed valves.

This article tells you more about the advantages of fast switching valves, the technology that makes them so reliable and fast, and some applications. For tailor-made advice without obligation, contact the pneumatics specialists at BIBUS directly.

The advantages of high speed valves

In the video below, BIBUS technical specialist Robert-Jan Wezenberg explains some of the advantages of MATRIX high speed valves. The following unique characteristics distinguish MATRIX valves:

  1. Long service life: high speed valves from MATRIX have a very long service life, making them a durable choice. The valves are guaranteed to have a lifetime of at least 500 million operations. This service life can reach up to 4 billion cycles.
  2. Extremely fast switching times: the valves can switch up to 2000 times per second with the Speed-Up control. This makes the fast switching valves popular in high-speed sorting machines.
  3. 100% produced in the European Union: MATRIX designs and produces all its valves in Italy. The valves are therefore characterised by high quality, short delivery times and a short supply chain.
  4. Energy-saving: Matrix's unique Speed-Up technology (also known as peak & hold) requires only 5 VDC response voltage during the valve opening phase, after which it is reduced to a reduced hold voltage in less than 5 ms time. This saves up to 90% of energy costs.
  5. Safe machines and devices: reliable valves with extra safety thanks to the production tests MATRIX performs on all manufactured valves. In addition, the valves feature a self-cooling system against heat generation in high-frequency applications and a self-closing mechanism without leakage.
  6. High flexibility: starting from just one high speed valve, MATRIX can already offer a customised solution. As a result, you are guaranteed to find the ideal high speed valve for your application.

The operation of high speed valves

MATRIX valves have a unique and innovative technology. Thanks to the frictionless and lightweight switching system (see the image below on the left), the valves achieve a service life of up to 4 billion switching cycles.

This drastically reduces maintenance intervals and significantly lowers the operating costs of your installation. With very high repeatability throughout its lifetime and unmatched reliability, you can rely on consistent quality and maximum productivity.

Matrix's electromagnetic valve design is characterised by a side-hinged metal valve with return spring to maintain its position at rest (NC or NO). When activated, the coil and magnetic core rapidly attract the armature, enabling airflow. When the control signal ends, the return spring and air pressure provide extremely fast response times when closing.

With the configuration to house up to 9 switching systems in a single valve block (see image above right) measuring only 46 x 46 x 42 mm, you save valuable space and reduce the number of pipes required. This not only results in significant material savings, but also simplifies installation, reducing working time.

Innovative advantages modular design

The modular design of the quick release valves offers the following advantages:

  1. Compactness: multiple independent shutter mechanisms can be easily and compactly integrated into one housing.
  2. Integrated flexibility: the same product design with variable flow or different flow configurations with multiple internal shutter mechanisms for each outlet.
  3. Dynamic performance: fast response times regardless of flow rate thanks to fractionation. 100 l/min = 800 l/min = 2 ms.

Applications of high speed valves

Fast switching times, compact design and long service life make MATRIX valves ideal for use in:

  • Life science, medical and pharmaceutical automation
  • Food and beverage industry
  • Control of vacuum and pneumatic actuators
  • Packaging industry
  • Sorting and recycling (up to 2,000 Hz)
  • Proportional flow control
  • Textile industry
  • Semiconductors and electronics
  • Agriculture
